For a PC, it's best to do certain things on a regular basis.
We call this process "Routine Monthly Maintenance", and we
would love to set you up on our regular schedule to come
by at a certain time every month just to lay hands on all
of the PC's in your office and make sure they are spinning
like a top. Here are some hints to help your pc run smoother:
Disk Defragmenter
Run the disk defragmenter when you hear the
hard drive really crunching when you are
trying to do something normal like open a
program. It's best if you can run defrag
once a month, but once a quarter is usually
OK. Right click on "My Computer" and choose
"Manage". Then, click on the "Disk Defragmenter"
option on the left navigation tree. Choose
which drive you want to defragment, and click
the "Defragment" button.
Windows Updates
Having automatic updates turned "On" in the
control panel will keep you protected. But
it's not a bad idea to manually run Windows
Update every now and then, maybe once every
four to six weeks if you can keep up with
it. Windows Update or Microsoft Update provides
important security patches and updates for
Windows and other Microsoft software as they
become available. Go into Internet Explorer
(Windows Update cannot be run from Mozilla,
Opera, or any other browser). Pull down the
"Tools" menu up top, and choose "Windows
Update". From the web page that appears,
if you see the option to choose "Try Microsoft
Update", then that will also give you the
patches for MS Office and other products
as well. Choose the "Custom" option when
prompted, and you can get optional updates
like the dot net framework, and new versions
of Windows Media Player. |
